Brit Award winning soul and R&B star Lemar will join music legend George Benson for his show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.

10-time Grammy Award winner George – whose illustrious career spans five hit-packed decades – heads to the beautiful Yorkshire coast on Saturday July 1 for a concert at Europe’s largest open air theatre.

And Scarborough OAT promoters Cuffe and Taylor are today delighted to confirm double Brit Award winner Lemar will open the show for George on what promises to be an unforgettable night for soul and R&B fans.

Since his rise to stardom on Fame Academy in 2002, Lemar has become a multi-platinum selling artist with seven Top 10 singles – including Dance (with U), If There’s Any Justice, The Way Love Goes and Time To Grow – and two Top 10 albums.

Together with his two BRIT Awards, for British Urban Act, he has won two MOBO awards for Best UK Male and one for Best Album.

Lemar said: “George Benson is a music icon and it’s a real honour to share the same bill with such a legend and hero to soul and R&B fans the world over.

“Having had the pleasure of performing with him before, I know this is really going to be an unforgettable night. I can’t wait.”

George Benson’s appearance at Scarborough OAT is one of only two UK dates for a star whose unmistakable voice and masterful guitar playing are revered around the world.

His stunning back catalogue includes such classics as Give Me The Night, Lady Love Me (One More Time}, Turn Your Love Around, Love X Love and Never Give Up On A Good Thing and In Your Eyes.

Cuffe and Taylor Director Peter Taylor said: “This is going to be some night at Scarborough OAT. George Benson is a soul and R&B legend and to add the brilliant Lemar, who is a sensational singer and British soul great, to the line-up is fantastic for live music fans.

“We can’t wait for July 1 as this is going to be a true night to remember.”

Lemar and George Benson join soul and R&B legends The Jacksons, Tom Jones, Kaiser Chiefs, Little Mix, Jess Glynne, Olly Murs, Madness, Cliff Richard, UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey Virtue, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, 80s v 90s night and The Charlatans among the star-studded headliners at Scarborough OAT in 2017.
