GEORGE EZRA ADDS SECOND ‘LIVE AT THE PIECE HALL’ DATE

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Chart-topper George Ezra has today delighted fans by announcing a second summer headline show at The Piece Hall, Halifax.

Due to phenomenal demand, the Brit Award winner will play the historic Yorkshire venue on Monday July 3.

Today’s announcement comes after all 5,500 tickets for George’s previously announced show at The Piece Hall on Thursday July 6 sold out in just minutes.

Tickets for George’s July 3 show go on general sale at 9am this Friday (May 19) via  ticketmaster.co.uk

The show is presented by The Piece Hall and promoters Cuffe and Taylor.

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, said: “Having seen the disappointment of some fans who were unable to secure tickets for the July 6 show, we are absolutely delighted to announce that, after discussions with the promoter and artist, we can offer a second headline show with the one and only George Ezra.

“I’m very grateful to George and Cuffe and Taylor for agreeing to this. It’s going to be a great summer of live music at this wonderful and special venue.”

Live at The Piece Hall 2023 promises 22 stunning nights of live music throughout June, July and August with headline shows from such music legends as Sting, Queens of the Stone Age, Madness, Orbital and James, plus many more.

George Ezra’s shows follow his sell-out UK tour off the back of his third Number One album Gold Rush Kid, which features the hit singles Anyone For You and singalong anthem Green Green Grass.

After two blockbuster albums – Wanted On Voyage (2014) and Staying At Tamara’s (2018), both of which reached Number 1 in the UK and sold millions around the world – Gold Rush Kid was another beautiful offering which George wrote and produced with longstanding collaborator Joel Pott.

George, one of the UK’s most acclaimed songwriters and live performers, plays a series of massive outdoor dates this summer including headline shows at Lytham Festival, Chepstow Racecourse, Bedford Park Concerts and the Isle of Wight Festival, together with dates throughout Europe and South Africa

PAUL HEATON ANNOUNCES RETURN TO SCARBOROUGH OPEN AIR THEATRE

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Paul Heaton is heading back to the Yorkshire coast this summer for what promises to be another incredible headline show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

The Beautiful South and Housemartins great – whose latest album N.K Pop stormed to the top of the UK Album Charts – plays the UK’s largest outdoor theatre on Saturday July 1.

Paul will be joined on the night by special guests The Lightning Seeds.

Tickets – all priced at £35 – go on general sale at 9.30am on Friday April 28 via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com

The Scarborough OAT show will see Paul performing songs from throughout his career including classic tracks from The Beautiful South and The Housemartins.

The show will feature special guest singers following the news that, following further medical advice, Jacqui Abbott will sadly not be able to perform at this summer’s live dates. We hope you’ll join us in wishing Jacqui a continued and speedy recovery.

Paul is one of the UK’s most consistently successful songwriters. His total sales across his catalogue (The Housemartins, The Beautiful South, solo, and Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott) is 8.8 million in the UK, and 13 million globally.

His songwriting genius was recognised at the prestigious Ivor Awards 2022 where he was presented with a long overdue gong for ‘Outstanding Song Collection’.

Paul’s Scarborough OAT show on July 1 is a much-requested return to the Yorkshire coast for the singer who played an unforgettable sell-out date at the venue back in 2016 with his long-time collaborator Jacqui Abbott.

And he is certainly no stranger to Scarborough, having filmed the video for 2015 hit single I Don’t See Them in the resort.

Scarborough OAT venue programmer Peter Taylor said: “We get lots of requests from people telling us who they would like to see here at Scarborough OAT and Paul Heaton remains top of many wish lists.

“He was part of one of the most successful ever British groups and he is adored by fans across the UK and beyond. His wonderful live shows are packed with songs everyone knows and loves.

“Paul’s show here in 2016 was truly magical and I’m sure his eagerly-awaited return, together with support from The Lightning Seeds, will be one of the most popular nights at Scarborough OAT this summer!”

In 34 years as a recording artist, Ian Broudie – the man behind The Lightning Seeds – has sold a lot of records. Those include a million copies of Jollification, the 1994 album whose platinum-tipped success was spearheaded by era-capturing hit single Change.

In 1996 Broudie composed era-defining anthem Three Lions – a song with a remarkable afterlife. Number One twice, it returned – everywhere – during last summer’s Women’s Euros, as the Lionesses bought Football home!

Paul Heaton and The Lightning Seeds join Sting, Blondie, Pulp, Dermot Kennedy, The Cult, Hollywood Vampires, N-Dubz, Olly Murs, Rag’n’Bone Man, Tom Grennan and the International Tour of MAMMA MIA! among the headliners at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE ARE BACK WITH NEW UK TOUR

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Queens of the Stone Age today announce three very special UK headline shows for summer 2023 – including an unmissable date at The Piece Hall, Halifax.

The dates begin at The Piece Hall’s iconic open-air courtyard on Tuesday June 20 before the US band heads to Margate’s Dreamland (June 22) and Cardiff Castle (June 23).

Tickets go on general sale from Friday April 21 at 9am via ticketmaster.co.uk and available for artist presale from Wednesday April 19 at 9am via qotsa.com

The three-date run will mark Queens of the Stone Age’s much anticipated return to the UK, and first live performances in the country since the 2018 Villains tour, which saw Queens described as “the greatest rock’n’roll band on the planet” in a five star review in The Guardian.

Released in 2017, and received as a redefining album, shooting straight to #1 in the UK on its release, Villains is now a UK Gold-certified record.

Alongside 2013’s multiple-GRAMMY-nominated, Billboard 200 #1 charting …Like Clockwork, and their self-titled 1998 debut, the three landmark albums were recently re-released, now back on vinyl newly cut from the original master tapes and available via Matador Records here.

The three special UK live shows arrive among a European summer tour taking in huge performances at Southside Festival, Pinkpop, Roskilde, Open’er Festival, Mad Cool, NOS Alive and more.

Isle Of Wight-based four-piece Coach Party – recently tipped by NME as “glittering new indie-grunge” and “dazzling pop goodness” by DIY – will perform in support at all three UK summer dates.

Queens of the Stone Age join Limp Bizkit, The Charlatans, Johnny Marr, Sting, Madness, James, boygenius, War On Drugs and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, said: “What a coup to be able to host Queens of the Stone Age for their first UK gig in five years.

“I know the crowds here in Halifax will do us proud and give this iconic and highly respected band the welcome they deserve when they hit the stage in our courtyard this summer. This is an amazing opportunity to see a world class act in a stunning and unique heritage setting.”

Jonathan Agnew looks ahead to Test Match Special’s Live Tour – 2023 Ashes Special

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Cricket legends Jonathan ‘Aggers’ Agnew and Glenn McGrath arewarming up for this summer’s England v Australia Ashes series by joining the Test Match Special team for a very special livetheatre tour.

Test Match Special Live 2023 visits 17 venues across the UK for a show no cricket fan will want to miss.

The show will be packed with Ashes stories, anecdotes, special guests and plenty of audience interaction as this summer’s series is discussed and deliberated.

Ahead of the tour, former England fast bowler and broadcasting great Aggers looks ahead to the shows which will be the perfect scene setter for this summer’s eagerly awaited 73rd Ashes series.

Q: You are taking Test Match Special on tour ahead of The Ashes. What can the audience expect?

Aggers: The live shows are an extension of the radio programme. People chatting, telling stories watching some brilliant footage from Ashes series of the past. It’s a reminisce and reflection of what is one of the great sporting contests in the world.
On radio with TMS you are chatting away, but you can’t see anybody reacting. The audience really gets involved in these live shows which is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to this tour – it’s going to be a lot of fun!

Q: Alongside you for this year’s TMS Live Tour is one of cricket’s true legends. You must be looking forward to taking to the stage every night with Glenn McGrath?

Aggers: Glenn is such a lovely man and an Ashes legend.
He was always a grumpy so and so on the field but he is just the gentlest man off it.
Glenn had such an amazing career and he has so many fascinating stories about what it was like playing in that amazing Australian team that he and Shane (Warne) basically drove in the 1990s.
He’s going be a really good partner to have doing the tour and we’re going to have guests popping in, lots of footage, lots of illustration of what the Ashes is. It really is an extraordinary thing.
Cricket changes so fast but the Ashes remains part of folklore.

Q: How did you get involved in Test Match Special?

Aggers: It was just one of those things where an opportunity comes along and you just grab it. I made the decision to retire from playing cricket quite young and I went to Australia to cover that for the (former) Today newspaper. Christopher Martin Jenkins, who was a BBC cricket correspondent announced during that tour that he was leaving the BBC, so the opening came up.
At that time, I hadn’t listened to TMS for quite a long time because we were always on the road playing. But I’d listened to it a lot as a kid with my dad. This is now my 33rdsummer with TMS – it’s amazing really.
I see myself as hopefully being a bit of a bridge between the old guard and the new young guns. It’s like a soap opera, people come and go and like most soap operas you need someone who tries to hold it all together!

Q: What is it that makes Test Match Special so successful and well-loved?

Aggers: I think it’s the company, it’s the friendliness, the gentle humour – well apart from when dear Geoffrey (Boycott) is on and we have the occasional argument!
Cricket does have to be the thread that runs and holds it all together and we must never lose sight of that.
Email and social media has helped create more of a conversation with the listeners. I used to sit down with a fair amount of dread when it was raining thinking ‘how do we fill this?’
But these days as soon as you get a bit of a theme going everybody joins it and it makes it such a nice programme to be part of.
Listeners really do know that they can get involved and you know there’s a very good chance that anything that you do contribute will be broadcast and talked about and that’s such a nice thing.

Q: What makes The Ashes so special?

Aggers: The Ashes, test cricket, it’s one of the longest rivalries in sporting history and it means so much.
It’s hostile, it’s patriotic – all those things that you want from a big sporting event! It’s very special and it’s so important that we celebrate it every time it comes around.

Q: What are your recollections of Glenn McGrath’s impact on the Ashes?

Aggers: No fast bowler has taken more England wickets than Glenn.
My memories of him are basically of him destroying England. He and Shane were such an incredible partnership.
They were very different – I used to call Shane Warne a pantomime dame. This huge character, very flamboyant. Lots of gesturing and words.
Glenn got on with his job quietly, very mechanically and it was his precision. He was like a perfect swinging pendulum. He was a clock that never lost or gained time.
Every movement was perfect. He made bowling looking fairly easy but he was meticulous and worked hard.
We’ve got some great stuff with him losing it in the commentary box in 2019 during that Ben Stokes innings at Headingley, throwing his headphones on the ground in fury, he still wears his heart on his sleeve that’s for sure!

Q: England’s test side has been transformed under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. What is your prediction for the Ashes?

Aggers: Australia haven’t won here for more than 20 years and when we left Australia last year, I thought this coming summer they would win easily. It was all a bit of a shambles in the England set up after that defeat in Grenada in March
So what has happened since is unbelievable, it is literally unbelievable.
Ben Stokes was the only person who could come in after Joe Root and he is a very strong leader, very charismatic. You’d run through a brick wall for the bloke.
The interesting one is actually Brendon McCullum, who was just the most brilliant appointment. He’s always been an incredibly relaxed and calm individual.
They are playing a really exciting style of cricket. It’s thrilling to watch.
It is such a healthy atmosphere around the England camp right now and they are a delight to work with. You just can’t bet against this England side right now.

Q: Who are the key players on either side?

Aggers: I’m inclined to say Stokes because his captaincy is going to be so important. It will be fascinating to see how he goes about leading England against Australia, especially if Australia start well. Inevitably it’s Steve Smith on the Australian side because he’s just so difficult to bowl to.
Pat Cummins is a fine bowler and captain, so he is also very important but I would say Stokes and Smith.

HOZIER ANNOUNCES HALIFAX DATE AS PART OF SUMMER 2023 UK TOUR

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Hozier has announced his highly anticipated live return with news of his first UK tour in four years.

The Grammy-nominated, award-winning multi-platinum singer and songwriter and his band will perform headline dates across the UK this summer – including a headline show at The Piece Hall, Halifax on Sunday July 2.

Tickets go on general sale at 9.30am on Friday March 24 from ticketmaster.co.uk

In honour of his birthday today and St. Patrick’s Day, Hozier has also released his new EP Eat Your Young. The record includes all new material and features three songs – the title track, All Things End, and Through Me (The Flood). The EP is out now and available digitally HERE. Working on further music, his third album Unreal Unearth is set for release later this year.

With more than 22 billion global streams, numerous platinum album certifications, multiple award nominations and wins, Hozier is recognised as one of the foremost songwriters of our generation.

Driven by the thought-provoking quintuple-platinum anthem Take Me To Church his self-titled full-length debut – which also included the hit single Someone New – bowed at Number 3 in the UK and Number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 (the second biggest debut album of the year) and went on to achieve triple RIAA Platinum status.

Sold-out tours followed while Hozier’s success was not confined to the UK and US with his debut album also achieving multi-platinum status around the world.

Much anticipated follow up album Wasteland, Baby! was released to massive critical acclaim in March 2019, entering the US Billboard Top 200 Chart at Number 1.

The album’s 14 tracks (all original Hozier compositions) marked a major development in songwriting and subject matter. The most obvious is Hozier’s enlightened assessment of the global socio-political landscape. The multi-platinum selling album included the aforementioned single Nina Cried Power along with singles Movement, Almost (Sweet music), and Dinner and Diatribes.

Last year Hozier teamed up with God of War: Ragnarok’s composer, Bear McCreary to write the song Blood Upon The Snow, which was featured in the soundtrack for the game. The same year he also released Swan Upon Leda, in a statement shared alongside the release, the star explained that he was sharing the track as a way of showing “solidarity” with those fighting for reproductive rights.

Hozier will be joined at The Piece Hall by special guests Alison Russell and Victoria Canal.

Hozier joins Madness, Sting, Rag’N’Bone Man, James, boygenius, Embrace, War On Drugs, The Lumineers and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’ with more artists still to be announced.

THE CHARLATANS AND JOHNNY MARR ANNOUNCE CO-HEADLINE SHOW

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Two of the UK’s most beloved music legends are teaming up for an incredible co-headline show at The Piece Hall, Halifax.

The Charlatans and Johnny Marr will take to the stage at the historic Yorkshire venue on Saturday August 26.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday March 17 via ticketmaster.co.uk

More than 5,000 fans will be treated to an explosive set by Johnny before The Charlatans unleash their own barrage of bulletproof anthems. Special guests are to be announced very soon.

For more than 30 years, The Charlatans have been an inspirational force in British music notching up 14 Top 40 studio albums – three of them number ones – alongside 22 Top 40 singles, four of them Top 10 hits.

The band – Tim Burgess, Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers – remain one of the most brilliant live acts around, a finely honed musical powerhouse the world adores.

Their back catalogue is a non-stop jukebox of indie rock’s greatest hits including the unmistakable sound and swagger of The Only One I Know, Weirdo, Just When You’re Thinkin’ Things Over, One to Another, How High, North Country Boy and Come Home Baby.

Lead singer Tim Burgess said: “Yorkshire crowds have always been among our warmest and loudest supporters and we cannot wait to play for them again alongside our good friend Johnny Marr.”

Johnny added: “I’ve played some truly memorable gigs in Yorkshire and I can’t wait for another unforgettable night in Halifax on August 26. The Piece Hall is a stunning venue and I’m sure this is going to be a real highlight of the summer.”

Founding member and songwriting genius of The Smiths, superstar collaborator and sensational solo artist in his own right, Johnny Marr is quite rightly regarded as a bona fide British music icon.

Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, his brilliant fourth solo album, following The Messenger (2013), Playland (2014), and 2018’s Call The Comet, was described by Johnny as “the most ambitious solo record I’ve done” and was greeted by widespread critical acclaim.

His live shows include songs from across his whole career, from classic Smiths and Electronic hits, to his lauded and diverse solo work such as fan favourites Easy Money, Night and Day, Spirit, Spiral Cities and Power and Soul.

The Charlatans and Johnny Marr join Madness, Sting, Rag’N’Bone Man, James, boygenius, Embrace, War On Drugs, The Lumineers and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’.

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, said: “This is going to be another incredible night at The Piece Hall, in an amazing summer of music. Lots of people have been asking us to bring The Charlatans here for some time, so for us to be able to do so together with the legend that is Johnny Marr – and on the same night – then this is set to be a golden ticket. It is another fantastic coup for The Piece Hall and I would advise fans to get their tickets early!”

Alex, James and Mike will take to the stage to share their own personal World Cup stories – with the tour coming 20 years after Mike was part of the England side which brought home the Webb Ellis Trophy from Australia in 2003.

They will also be recapping all the action from the 10th men’s Rugby World Cup, which takes place in France in September and October… In their very own, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby style.

The trio will take to the stage to recreate the trademark banter they have on air, as The Good (Alex), The Bad (James) And The Rugby (Mike), share tales from on and off the pitch for what promises to be a night filled with surprises and laughter with audience interaction, fun and games.

Announcing the tour, Mike said: “We had an amazing time touring with The Good, The Bad And The Rugby – LIVE last year, so we cannot wait to get back out there in the Autumn, with the lowdown on all things World Cup. Personally, it will be a really special way to look back on being part of the England World Cup winning squad from 2003 – and hopefully England fans will have something to celebrate again.”

Episodes of the podcast have featured glimpses into each of the men’s lives – Mike announced his son’s dramatic birth on the bathroom floor on air, and they have regular guest appearances from some of the rugby world’s biggest stars and most controversial names.

James added: “Listeners to the podcast know how much we love sharing our stories and experiences of the game and getting stuck into the stories from our guests. It’s exciting to be planning another live tour for The Good, The Bad And The Rugby. Apparently we’ve been told we’ve got to talk about rugby and the World Cup but, as always, I will be steering it towards the characters and off field misdemeanours… So buy a ticket, and jump on the GBR magical mystery tour!”

And Alex said: “Anyone who has ever listened to the show knows that my role is part host, part baby-sitter and part punchbag. Frankly, after two months in France at what will be an epic tournament, the last thing I want to do is spend more time with the other two – particularly on the road. But I’ve got to pay the bills. Time to get the goggles on and climb into the sidecar once again. See you there!”

Alongside the rugby chat, The Good, The Bad And The Rugby is popular with fans thanks to its mix of general sporting and pop-culture talking points – meaning it is a hit with rugby fans as well as a wider general audience.

Ben Hatton, Director of Theatre Touring for promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “The Good, The Bad And The Rugby tour in 2022 was a huge hit with fans of the game and podcast listeners. Since then, the podcast has gone from strength to strength so we can’t wait to see the reaction when Alex, James and Mike get back on the road after what is expected to be a brilliant men’s Rugby World Cup 2023.”

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Liverpool FC balladeer Jamie Webster and the nation’s most beloved sports impressionist Darren Farley are joining the line-up for The Overlap Live in Liverpool.

Gary Neville brings his smash hit YouTube sensation The Overlap to the M&S Bank Arena on Thursday February 2 when he will take to the stage with fellow football icons Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher.

The live show will see Gary, Jamie and Roy – widely regarded as TV’s top pundits – lift the lid on their celebrated playing careers, delve deep into today’s hottest football issues and field questions from the audience.

And the Premier league legends will be joined by Liverpool-born favourites Jamie Webster and Darren Farley.

The architect of a people-powered movement with the release of his anthem to misspent days and nights – Weekend In Paradise – Webster’s internationally acclaimed songs of everyday life and matchday thrills have made him an icon for Reds fans both at home and abroad.

He will be performing a number of songs from his two Top 10 albums on the night, while comedian Darren will deliver many of his hilarious impressions of football’s top stars which have won him more than 300 million online views.

Gary Neville said: “We are delighted Jamie and Darren will be joining us for the opening night of The Overlap Live Tour in Liverpool.

“Darren is hilarious and no stranger to The Overlap – and let’s be honest, his Jamie Carragher impression is worth the price of admission alone!

“It’s great to add Jamie Webster to the line-up. He’s an incredible singer-songwriter who fans have taken to their hearts. It’s going to be an incredible start to the tour – so please join us if you like.”
