HOZIER ANNOUNCES HALIFAX DATE AS PART OF SUMMER 2023 UK TOUR

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Hozier has announced his highly anticipated live return with news of his first UK tour in four years.

The Grammy-nominated, award-winning multi-platinum singer and songwriter and his band will perform headline dates across the UK this summer – including a headline show at The Piece Hall, Halifax on Sunday July 2.

Tickets go on general sale at 9.30am on Friday March 24 from ticketmaster.co.uk

In honour of his birthday today and St. Patrick’s Day, Hozier has also released his new EP Eat Your Young. The record includes all new material and features three songs – the title track, All Things End, and Through Me (The Flood). The EP is out now and available digitally HERE. Working on further music, his third album Unreal Unearth is set for release later this year.

With more than 22 billion global streams, numerous platinum album certifications, multiple award nominations and wins, Hozier is recognised as one of the foremost songwriters of our generation.

Driven by the thought-provoking quintuple-platinum anthem Take Me To Church his self-titled full-length debut – which also included the hit single Someone New – bowed at Number 3 in the UK and Number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 (the second biggest debut album of the year) and went on to achieve triple RIAA Platinum status.

Sold-out tours followed while Hozier’s success was not confined to the UK and US with his debut album also achieving multi-platinum status around the world.

Much anticipated follow up album Wasteland, Baby! was released to massive critical acclaim in March 2019, entering the US Billboard Top 200 Chart at Number 1.

The album’s 14 tracks (all original Hozier compositions) marked a major development in songwriting and subject matter. The most obvious is Hozier’s enlightened assessment of the global socio-political landscape. The multi-platinum selling album included the aforementioned single Nina Cried Power along with singles Movement, Almost (Sweet music), and Dinner and Diatribes.

Last year Hozier teamed up with God of War: Ragnarok’s composer, Bear McCreary to write the song Blood Upon The Snow, which was featured in the soundtrack for the game. The same year he also released Swan Upon Leda, in a statement shared alongside the release, the star explained that he was sharing the track as a way of showing “solidarity” with those fighting for reproductive rights.

Hozier will be joined at The Piece Hall by special guests Alison Russell and Victoria Canal.

Hozier joins Madness, Sting, Rag’N’Bone Man, James, boygenius, Embrace, War On Drugs, The Lumineers and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’ with more artists still to be announced.

THE CHARLATANS AND JOHNNY MARR ANNOUNCE CO-HEADLINE SHOW

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Two of the UK’s most beloved music legends are teaming up for an incredible co-headline show at The Piece Hall, Halifax.

The Charlatans and Johnny Marr will take to the stage at the historic Yorkshire venue on Saturday August 26.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday March 17 via ticketmaster.co.uk

More than 5,000 fans will be treated to an explosive set by Johnny before The Charlatans unleash their own barrage of bulletproof anthems. Special guests are to be announced very soon.

For more than 30 years, The Charlatans have been an inspirational force in British music notching up 14 Top 40 studio albums – three of them number ones – alongside 22 Top 40 singles, four of them Top 10 hits.

The band – Tim Burgess, Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers – remain one of the most brilliant live acts around, a finely honed musical powerhouse the world adores.

Their back catalogue is a non-stop jukebox of indie rock’s greatest hits including the unmistakable sound and swagger of The Only One I Know, Weirdo, Just When You’re Thinkin’ Things Over, One to Another, How High, North Country Boy and Come Home Baby.

Lead singer Tim Burgess said: “Yorkshire crowds have always been among our warmest and loudest supporters and we cannot wait to play for them again alongside our good friend Johnny Marr.”

Johnny added: “I’ve played some truly memorable gigs in Yorkshire and I can’t wait for another unforgettable night in Halifax on August 26. The Piece Hall is a stunning venue and I’m sure this is going to be a real highlight of the summer.”

Founding member and songwriting genius of The Smiths, superstar collaborator and sensational solo artist in his own right, Johnny Marr is quite rightly regarded as a bona fide British music icon.

Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, his brilliant fourth solo album, following The Messenger (2013), Playland (2014), and 2018’s Call The Comet, was described by Johnny as “the most ambitious solo record I’ve done” and was greeted by widespread critical acclaim.

His live shows include songs from across his whole career, from classic Smiths and Electronic hits, to his lauded and diverse solo work such as fan favourites Easy Money, Night and Day, Spirit, Spiral Cities and Power and Soul.

The Charlatans and Johnny Marr join Madness, Sting, Rag’N’Bone Man, James, boygenius, Embrace, War On Drugs, The Lumineers and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’.

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, said: “This is going to be another incredible night at The Piece Hall, in an amazing summer of music. Lots of people have been asking us to bring The Charlatans here for some time, so for us to be able to do so together with the legend that is Johnny Marr – and on the same night – then this is set to be a golden ticket. It is another fantastic coup for The Piece Hall and I would advise fans to get their tickets early!”

Tickets will go on general sale from Friday, March 3 at 10am from www.cuffeandtaylor.com

Alex, James and Mike will take to the stage to share their own personal World Cup stories – with the tour coming 20 years after Mike was part of the England side which brought home the Webb Ellis Trophy from Australia in 2003.

They will also be recapping all the action from the 10th men’s Rugby World Cup, which takes place in France in September and October… In their very own, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby style.

The trio will take to the stage to recreate the trademark banter they have on air, as The Good (Alex), The Bad (James) And The Rugby (Mike), share tales from on and off the pitch for what promises to be a night filled with surprises and laughter with audience interaction, fun and games.

Announcing the tour, Mike said: “We had an amazing time touring with The Good, The Bad And The Rugby – LIVE last year, so we cannot wait to get back out there in the Autumn, with the lowdown on all things World Cup. Personally, it will be a really special way to look back on being part of the England World Cup winning squad from 2003 – and hopefully England fans will have something to celebrate again.”

Episodes of the podcast have featured glimpses into each of the men’s lives – Mike announced his son’s dramatic birth on the bathroom floor on air, and they have regular guest appearances from some of the rugby world’s biggest stars and most controversial names.

James added: “Listeners to the podcast know how much we love sharing our stories and experiences of the game and getting stuck into the stories from our guests. It’s exciting to be planning another live tour for The Good, The Bad And The Rugby. Apparently we’ve been told we’ve got to talk about rugby and the World Cup but, as always, I will be steering it towards the characters and off field misdemeanours… So buy a ticket, and jump on the GBR magical mystery tour!”

And Alex said: “Anyone who has ever listened to the show knows that my role is part host, part baby-sitter and part punchbag. Frankly, after two months in France at what will be an epic tournament, the last thing I want to do is spend more time with the other two – particularly on the road. But I’ve got to pay the bills. Time to get the goggles on and climb into the sidecar once again. See you there!”

Alongside the rugby chat, The Good, The Bad And The Rugby is popular with fans thanks to its mix of general sporting and pop-culture talking points – meaning it is a hit with rugby fans as well as a wider general audience.

Ben Hatton, Director of Theatre Touring for promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “The Good, The Bad And The Rugby tour in 2022 was a huge hit with fans of the game and podcast listeners. Since then, the podcast has gone from strength to strength so we can’t wait to see the reaction when Alex, James and Mike get back on the road after what is expected to be a brilliant men’s Rugby World Cup 2023.”

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Embrace are to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album The Good Will Out with a massive homecoming show.

Special guests Starsailor and Ellur will open the show at the historic Halifax venue’s iconic open-air courtyard – in front of an anticipated 5,000 capacity crowd.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday November 25 via ticketmaster.co.uk

Released in 1998, The Good Will Out became one of the fastest selling debut albums by a British artist, certified Gold on day of release and entering the UK album chart at No.1.

The album spawned three Top 10 singles, All You Good Good People, Come Back To What You Know and My Weakness Is None Of Your Business together with two other Top 40 hits, One Big Family and Fireworks.

And Embrace are delighted to announce they will be playing the album in full at The Piece Hall on July 1 together with many hits from their brilliant back catalogue.

Halifax-born Embrace frontman Danny McNamara said: “”It’s great to be playing our home town. Last time we played at The Piece Hall was one of the most amazing nights of my life. To be asked to come back and play there again and to have the amazing Starsailor and Ellur as support is going to be epic”.

Formed in 1990 in the village of Bailiff Bridge – situated less than five miles from The Piece Hall – Embrace have scored three No.1 albums and six Top 10 singles in their career to date, selling more than two million albums in the process.

The band’s eighth album How to Be a Person Like Other People was released in August. Featuring the singles The Terms of My Surrender, We Are It and Death Is Not the End, it became their eighth consecutive studio album to chart in the UK Top 10.

Starsailor burst onto the scene in 2001 when their single Fever earned them the title of “Britain’s best new band”.

The Lancashire band then delivered their incredible debut album Love Is Here g star Ellur, this show is going to be stellar”which included the smash hit singles Good Souls and Alcoholic.

They followed it with such acclaimed long players Silence is Easy, On the Outside, All the Plans and 2017’s All This Life – selling more than three million copies in the process.

Starsailor have enjoyed more than their fair share of prestigious gigs, supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Killers, and U2.

Halifax’s very own purveyor of indie pop Ellur will open the show. The acclaimed 21-year-old recently released her new single Now I’m Alone.

A follow-up to the brilliant Close To You and Best Face On, Now I’m Alone arrived after Ellur delivered impressive sets at Live at Leeds and SWN Festival. And Ellur is certainly no stranger to Embrace fans as she has supported the band before on several UK dates.

“With so much love in the area for these local legends, the requests to have them back were many and I know there’ll be some truly beautiful moments once again at this show.

Olly’s Scarborough date will be his fourth visit to the UK’s biggest outdoor concert arena and makes him the only artist to have ever played at the venue so many times. His shows in 2013, 2017, and most recently in 2021 were all sell-outs.

And in 2023 he will be joined by pop-rock outfit Scouting for Girls as special guests.

Scarborough OAT venue programmer Peter Taylor said: “We cannot wait to welcome Olly Murs back to our glorious Yorkshire coast venue.

“Olly has previously performed three sell-out shows at Scarborough OAT and fans are always asking when he’s coming back so we are delighted we will see him here again in 2023.

“Next summer is shaping up to be a brilliant season of live music and theatre in Scarborough and to have an artist who will be returning for a fourth occasion is a real testament to both the strength of the audience and venue.”

Although a regular on TV screens with ITV’s The Voice and Starstruck, Olly has been off the music radar for four years. For a musician who had four Number One singles and four Number One albums in a near-back-to-back run after bursting onto the scene with his double-platinum self-titled debut in 2010, that’s a big gap.

But now he is back with his most consistent, most ambitious, punchiest, poppiest – and, in places, proudly soppiest – album yet, coinciding with the fact his girlfriend recently said yes to his Marry Me question!

And now audiences in Scarborough can look forward to another hit-filled night.
Olly joins, N-Dubz, Sting, Pulp, Hollywood Vampires and the week-long run of the international touring production of Mamma Mia! at Scarborough OAT next summer – with many more headline artists still to be announced.
