FIRST AID KIT JOIN STELLAR LINE-UP FOR LIVE AT THE PIECE HALL 2022

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Swedish alt-folk duo First Aid Kit have been added to the sensational headline line-up for Live at The Piece Hall 2022.

Sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg have been wowing audiences around the world for more than a decade and they now head to The Piece Hall in Halifax on Thursday June 23.

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday March 25 via ticketmaster.co.uk

First Aid Kit join the likes of Duran Duran, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Paloma Faith, Nile Rodgers and CHIC, Tom Grennan and Paul Weller among this summer’s headliners to perform in the historic Yorkshire venue’s open-air courtyard.

Hailing from a southern suburb of Stockholm, Klara and Johanna began composing songs as teenagers.

They released two studio albums with Wichita Records – The Big Black And The Blue in 2010 and The Lion’s Roar in 2012 which featured breakthrough single Emmylou. Rolling Stone quickly named it one of its ‘Singles of the Year’.

They followed their early success with 2014’s Stay Gold and, four years later, Ruins – which hit Number 3 in the UK album charts and featured the stunning singles It’s A Shame and Fireworks. NME’s four-star review of Ruins stated: “It is a lush, expansive release that uses the siblings’ uncanny blood harmony to full effect, elevating their low-key folk songs into something majestic.”

Twice nominated for Best International Group at the BRIT Awards, Klara and Johanna last year released their wondrous live tribute to Leonard Cohen – Who By Fire – which again won widespread critical acclaim.

First Aid Kit’s sensational live shows – at which they are backed by a full band – are famed for being emotionally-charged affairs, packed with incredible songs, astonishing harmonies and singalong anthems.

This year they hit stages across Europe, USA, Canada as well as festival appearances at Glastonbury and Bristol Sounds.

Support on the night comes from fast-rising Dublin country pop star CMAT, aka singer-songwriter Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson.

CMAT’s debut album If My Wife New I’d Be Dead was released only last month. It instantly topped the Irish album chart and won massive acclaim with Hot Press magazine rating the album as “undoubtedly one of the most thrilling Irish pop debuts of the century”.

First Aid Kit’s Halifax show is presented by Cuffe and Taylor and The Piece Hall Trust. Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, said: “First Aid Kit have wowed audiences around the world for more than a decade and we are so excited to be welcoming the fantastically talented Klara and Johanna here to our courtyard.

“We have a packed summer of live music ahead of us here at The Piece Hall with truly brilliant headline artists. It’s going to be our biggest and best year ever!”

The North West-based promoters – who are part of Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s leading live entertainment company – have agreed a five-year deal to co-promote headline shows with The Piece Hall Trust.

The Piece Hall in Halifax is a unique architectural and cultural wonder. It originally opened in 1779 for the trading of ‘pieces’ of cloth produced by Yorkshire’s famous woollen mills and is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world.

Now an award-winning contemporary cultural, heritage and live entertainment destination, The Piece Hall has welcomed more than eight million visitors through its historic gates since it re-opened on 1 August 2017.

Cuffe and Taylor are delighted to reveal there will be more than a dozen open air shows staged within the Grade I listed Yorkshire venue’s iconic 66,000sq ft courtyard in June and July – making 2022 The Piece Hall’s biggest ever summer season of live music.

This year’s headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’ include Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Paul Weller, Paloma Faith, Tom Jones, Primal Scream, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Tom Grennan, Jessie Ware and Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra – Ibiza Classics.

Cuffe and Taylor founder Peter Taylor said: “We are beyond delighted to confirm we have entered into an exclusive five-year agreement with The Piece Hall Trust.

“This historic and iconic Yorkshire venue is simply stunning. We pledge to build on the work already undertaken by the Trust and deliver an exciting programme which has wide appeal for music fans.

“Live Nation work with some of the biggest music acts in the world and we cannot wait to bring major artists here to Halifax to play this special venue.”

Since 2016, they have exclusively programmed all live music events at Scarborough Open Air Theatre – including massive headline shows by the likes of Britney Spears, Lionel Richie, Kylie, Stereophonics, Biffy Clyro, Duran Duran, Lewis Capaldi and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

They are also responsible for staging UK tours with Britney, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey and Little Mix, while also curating major festivals and events such as Lancashire’s Lytham Festival and Greenwich Music Time, staged at the historic and world famous Old Royal Naval College.

Chair of The Piece Hall Trust, Sir Roger Marsh OBE, DL said: “Our vision for The Piece Hall to be a world class attraction, means we need to host world class artists and Cuffe and Taylor and Live Nation have the expertise to deliver this.

“So much has been achieved since we reopened four years ago and I’m incredibly proud of that, but we remain hugely ambitious for the future.

“This new partnership with a leader in the entertainment world and a promoter with a great reputation will see our iconic building welcome some iconic acts, cementing The Piece Hall’s reputation as a leading music venue, as well as securing income for the Trust and contributing to the economic regeneration of Calderdale and Yorkshire.”

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall, said: “We are delighted to be working with Live Nation and such a highly respected promoter as Cuffe and Taylor to deliver an incredible line up for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’ over the coming years.

“Cuffe and Taylor have an amazing track record in delivering live shows at iconic and historic venues across the UK, and we look forward to working with them to build on our great track record to date.

The last two years have seen an incredible creative output from Weller, releasing no fewer than three new studio albums – all to widespread acclaim.

His wondrous 17th solo album ‘An Orchestrated Songbook’ was released just a month ago. Recorded with award-winning arranger Jules Buckley and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the album reimagines a selection of his vast catalogue including such classics as English Rose, Broken Stones, You’re the Best Thing, Wild Wood and You Do Something to Me.
‘An Orchestrated Songbook’ followed the highly acclaimed Fat Pop: Volume 1 – his second Number One album in 12 months, which followed hot on the heels of the success of 2020’s On Sunset.

Weller’s live shows are the stuff of legend, mixing his unstoppable brand of high adrenaline rock with beautiful acoustic moments. Fans at The Piece Hall will be treated to an incredible evening from an artist who possesses one of music’s most brilliant and diverse catalogues that remains ever relevant.

Elbow are a group now in their third decade together and the fact Flying Dream 1 – which includes glorious singles The Seldom Seen Kid and Six Words – finds them at their most creative is testament to the strength of the partnership between their four members.

It is a partnership long forged through mutual respect and admiration, close personal ties, and a shared history of believing in the purpose and meaning of their work.

Formed in Bury in the 1990s when all the members were together at sixth form college, Elbow’s history now encompasses nine studio albums a long list of awards – including a BRIT and Ivor Novello Award – and a place in the roll call of great British bands.

Their live shows are the stuff of legend – none more so than their unforgettable headline performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage in 2011 – which was rated as ‘one of the all-time greats’ (The Guardian).

2022 is set to be the biggest and best year ever at Scarborough OAT with headliners including Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi, Bryan Adams, The Script, Simply Red, Crowded House and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, plus many more.
