N-DUBZ ANNOUNCE OPEN AIR 2023 TOUR

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

N-Dubz make a massive announcement today with five huge open-air headline shows taking place next summer across the UK – including a date on the Yorkshire coast.

Tulisa, Dappy and Fazer delighted their devoted fans by reforming N-Dubz earlier this year.

Right now the chart-topping and multi-award winning hip-hop trio are playing to sell-out crowds on their first UK Arena Tour in 11 years.

And they are delighted to confirm a new headline show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Thursday July 20.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday November 25 via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com

The Scarborough OAT show is one of five big outdoor N-Dubz gigs next summer.

The full dates are:
JULY 7 BRIGHTON VALLEY SERIES
JULY 8 MARGATE SUMMER SERIES
JULY 20 SCARBOROUGH OPEN AIR THEATRE
AUGUST 11 GUNNERSBURY PARK, LONDON
SEPTEMBER 8 CARDIFF, THE BAY SERIES

N-Dubz are quite simply a cultural phenomenon. For six years from 2006 to 2012 they dominated the UK charts and the media alike.

They have sold 1.3 million albums, with their first two albums Uncle B and Against All Odds certified Platinum in the UK. In 2009 they hit No.1 on the UK Singles Chart with the Number One – their smash-hit collaboration with Tinchy Stryder.

N-Dubz have won four MOBO awards – Best Newcomer in 2007, Best Album and Best Act in 2009 and Best Song in 2010 for their single Playing with Fire. They won a O2 Silver Clef Award in 2009 and were nominated for Best British Single at the BRITs in 2010.

They returned earlier this year with the release of new single Charmer – an instant classic N-Dubz song featuring their trademark storytelling via the slick raps of Dappy and Fazer, alongside the sassy vocals of Tulisa.

Their current ‘The Back To The Future Tour’ takes in many of the UK’s biggest cities and is giving fans the chance to hear all their favourite N-Dubz songs live for the first time in more than a decade.

N-Dubz join Sting, Pulp, Hollywood Vampires and the week-long run of the international touring production of Mamma Mia! at Scarborough OAT next summer – with many more headline artists still to be announced.

The sensational feel-good musical MAMMA MIA! is heading to the Yorkshire coast next summer for its biggest ever outdoor season of shows.

The worldwide smash hit will play SIX performances under the stars at Scarborough Open Air Theatre from 14 – 18 June 2023 as part of the MAMMA MIA! UK & International Tour.

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday November 4 via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com

With more than 30,000 tickets on sale this will be MAMMA MIA!’s largest outdoor run of shows to date and a brilliant return of live theatre to Scarborough OAT – the UK’s largest open air concert arena.

Audiences will fall in love with the irresistibly funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island idyll – all unfolding to the magic of ABBA’s timeless songs.

MAMMA MIA! Creator and Producer Judy Craymer said: “We are so excited to be bringing MAMMA MIA! to Scarborough Open Air Theatre next summer. With its heart-warming story told through the wonderful music of ABBA, MAMMA MIA! lends itself perfectly to the outdoors.

“Following the success of our first ever performances under the stars at Harewood House in 2021 we’re thrilled to now be performing at the UK’s largest outdoor theatre. We can’t wait for audiences to join us and be transported to our sunny Greek idyll.”

Scarborough OAT venue programmer Peter Taylor, of Cuffe and Taylor, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce the International Tour of MAMMA MIA! will be taking over Scarborough Open Air Theatre for a whole week next summer.

“This wonderful venue opened 90 years ago in 1932 to stage musicals, so we are beyond proud to reveal that musicals are not only back at Scarborough OAT, but arguably the biggest stage sensation of the last 30 years is heading here to the Yorkshire coast!

“Audiences will get the chance to enjoy this sensational show in a truly unique setting – by the sea and under the stars. It is going to be a magical experience!”

The performances in Scarborough will celebrate 24 years since MAMMA MIA! premiered in London in April 1999.
To date, MAMMA MIA! has been seen by more than 65 million people in 50 productions in 16 different languages. In 2011 it became the first Western musical ever to be staged in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China. MAMMA MIA! became the eighth longest running show in Broadway history where it played a record-breaking run for 14 years.

Since premiering in London’s West End the world’s sunniest and most exhilarating smash-hit musical has been turned into two record-breaking movies. Produced by Judy Craymer, MAMMA MIA! The Movie became the highest grossing live action musical film of all time upon its release in 2008. The second film, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN, opened in July 2018 and is the most successful live musical movie sequel of all time.

With music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, MAMMA MIA! is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production is designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material & arrangements by Martin Koch.

MAMMA MIA! at Scarborough Open Air Theatre is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East & Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal and NGM.

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES KICK-OFF 2023 UK TOUR WITH MASSIVE YORKSHIRE COAST SHOW

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen’s ‘best bar band in the world’ head to Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

American supergroup Hollywood Vampires are heading back to the UK next summer for a series of explosive shows – starting with a must-see date at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
The self-described “best bar band in the world” – consisting of core members and rock legends Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Aerosmith´s Joe Perry and guitarist Tommy Henriksen – are the first headliners revealed for Scarborough OAT’s eagerly-awaited 2023 summer season.

They open their 2023 UK Tour at the Yorkshire coast venue – the UK’s largest purpose-built outdoor concert arena – on Wednesday July 5.

Tickets go on sale at 10am Friday October 28 via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com

Hollywood Vampires’ tradition is to play a riotous tribute to the great lost heroes of music and their own original material, released on their studio album ‘Rise’.

And you simply just can’t keep a good band down. Forced to cancel their planned 2020 tour due to the global pandemic, the special bond that ties the members of the band to the UK has brought them back at the earliest opportunity.

Making no secret of their love of classic British rock’n’roll, they pepper their blistering sets with songs from The Who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Motörhead and more.

Ahead of Hollywood Vampires’ 2023 UK Tour, frontman Alice Cooper said: “Well it’s already been three years since the Vampires have toured. I can’t wait to get back with the guys, I really love being in that band. My band is great and wonderful, but playing with the Vampires is an entirely different situation.

“I don’t necessarily do any theatrics at all, I’m just the lead singer, in a band, and the band just happens to be one of the best bands around! It’ll be great to see Johnny and Joe and Buck and Chris and all the guys. We’ll be rocking these places, especially England, I can’t wait to get to England! Lock your doors, put garlic all around, because the Vampires are coming!”

Joe Perry added: “Next Summer it will be finally time for the Hollywood Vampires to rise again! We can’t wait to play the songs from our latest album, Rise, for all our fans across the pond. The excitement builds as we countdown the days! See you all then… remember, leave the garlic at home!”

Hollywood Vampires 2023 UK Tour:
Wednesday July 5 – Scarborough, Open Air Theatre
Friday July 7 – Swansea, Swansea Arena
Saturday July 8 – Manchester, AO Arena
Sunday July 9 – London, The O2
Tuesday July 11 – Birmingham, Utilita Arena
Wednesday July 12 – Glasgow, OVO Hydro

Peter Taylor, venue programmer at Scarborough OAT, said: “This is a huge coup for Scarborough OAT. Hollywood Vampires are heading back to the UK for the first time in five years and we are delighted this long-awaited tour includes a date on the Yorkshire coast before they play some of the UK’s biggest arenas.

“I’m sure rock fans will love this – the first of many exciting announcements we have coming up here at Scarborough OAT in the next few weeks. Roll on Summer 2023 – it’s going to be amazing!”

Hollywood Vampires first came together to record in 2015, bonding over a shared love of their favourite songs and a desire to celebrate their ‘dead, drunk friends’ by playing the music of the fallen heroes. Named after Alice’s 1970s drinking club that included the likes of John Lennon, Keith Moon and Mickey Dolenz, legendary performances ensued around the world.

With stone cold classics by the likes of The Doors, Love, AC/DC and the rest, plus of course Alice and Aerosmith’s hits, Hollywood Vampires were voted “best performance” of 2018 at London’s Wembley Arena on their last UK journey.

The 16-track album ‘Rise’, produced by Tommy Henriksen and the Hollywood Vampires, is one of the purest, most unapologetic and enjoyable rock and roll albums of recent times, made by masters of the craft and true fans of the form. Unlike their 2015 debut record, the second album consists mainly of original material, written by the band. There are, however, in the spirit of the Vampires’ original mission, three covers of songs originally written and recorded by legendary rockers who died far too young.

Joining the tour as special guests are South African rockers Seether. Since forming in Pretoria, South Africa in 1999, Seether have amassed a global fan base that has grown organically, offering their fans around the world camaraderie, comfort, and a sense of personal power.

Their impressive sales and chart history includes three platinum and two gold albums, 17 #1 singles, 21 Top 5 multi-format hits, single sales topping 17 million and over 2 billion streams world-wide across all platforms. Seether is Billboard’s #8 All-Time Mainstream Rock Artist, which covers the 40-year history of the chart’s existence. Their most recent album — their eighth — the acclaimed Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum (If You Want Peace, Prepare for War), was released in 2020 via Fantasy Records.

Tickets for Hollywood Vampires and Seether at Scarborough Open Air Theatre go on sale at 10am Friday October 28 via scarboroughopenairtheatre.com

Hollywood Vampires VIP packages will include exclusive merchandise, autographed memorabilia and the chance of a personal photograph with Joe, Johnny and Alice.

And the no-holds-barred opinions, passion and laughs all fans love is at the heart of The Overlap Live.

“We’ll be opening up to questions throughout the night, which we might live to regret, but let’s give it a go. I can’t wait to take this to such a huge venue and it will be a great night – join us if you like!”

Presenters Kelly Cates and Josh Denzel will attempt to keep Gary, Jamie and Roy in check on the night. And as the show is just 10 days before the start of the 2022 World Cup, be prepared for plenty of infamous big tournament tales and predictions ahead of kick-off in Qatar.

The Overlap Live is presented by Cuffe and Taylor and Live Nation in association with Footprint Sports & Entertainment and Sky Entertainments.

Ben Hatton, Cuffe and Taylor’s director of theatre touring, said: “This is a night no football fan will want to miss. Gary, Jamie and Roy are rightly regarded as the nation’s top pundits and when you get the three of them together on stage sparks will undoubtedly fly!

“The Overlap enjoys phenomenal success so to take the show to such an iconic venue as the OVO Arena Wembley – situated just a few yards from Wembley Stadium – is going to make for a brilliant evening of football banter.”

BOBBY BALL STATUE UNVEILED BEFORE FAMILY, FRIENDS & CELEBRITY PALS

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Family, friends, celebrities and fans gathered to witness the unveiling of a statue celebrating the life and legacy of comedy legend Bobby Ball.

More than 2,000 people packed into Lytham’s Lowther Gardens as Bobby’s widow Yvonne revealed the 7ft statue with help from their daughter Joanne O’Sullivan, Bobby’s sons Darren and Rob Harper along with the Rock-On funnyman’s comedy partner and lifelong friend Tommy Cannon.

Ahead of the unveiling Tommy and comedian Lee Mack both spoke to the crowd about Bobby while Bobby’s church minister Ray Bevan formally dedicated the statue.

Speaking to the crowd, Tommy said: “I love Bobby, God bless him.

“I love him today, I love him tomorrow I’ll always love him. Fifty-eight years we were together, it’s been one hell of a ride.”

Lee, who worked alongside Bobby on TV show Not Going Out for 12 years, added: “He was a little guy but he had a big personality, a large amount of mischief and a huge, huge heart.

“Bobby really was a one-off. I love him truly and I will miss him terribly.”

Friends and former co-stars of Bobby were also in attendance including Sherrie Hewson, Stu Francis, Les Dennis, Lady Anne Dodd, Steve Royle and Johnnie Casson.

Fans of the late comedian called for a statue in Bobby’s honour following his death in October 2020 and a huge fundraising appeal was launched to meet the £100k cost.

And Bobby’s widow Yvonne said Bobby would be overwhelmed to know there is a statue in his memory.

Yvonne said: “I am honoured to have a statue of Bobby in the town we called home, our family is, and I know above all else, Bobby would be absolutely delighted.

“This has been a wonderful event made very special with the help of Tommy and Lee, and of course all our family and friends. The number of people that have come out to see the statue is fantastic and we cannot thank them enough for their never-ending support.

“To know that Bobby will forever have a home in Lowther Gardens is very special and we all hope many, many people over the years enjoy coming along to say ‘hello’ to our Bob.”

Also performing at the statue unveiling was the NHS Choir and sculptor Ben Twiston-Davies explained the work involved to create the lifelike memorial.

The bronze statue stands 7ft in height upon a 2ft concrete base and weighs approximately 300kgYvonne added:“With the statue Ben has captured the Bobby known to the nation. His cheeky smile, that glint in his eye and of course, his braces. We are all delighted.”

LIVE AT THE PIECE HALL SET TO GROW AFTER SENSATIONAL SUMMER

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Music legend Tom Jones brilliantly brought the curtain down on a record-breaking Live At The Piece Hall 2022 – with organisers already pledging next year’s event will be even bigger.

Close to 60,000 people attended this summer’s sensational series of headline shows as some of the biggest names in music took to the stage at the historic Halifax venue over 12 stunning nights.

And Live At The Piece Hallco-promoters The Piece Hall Trust and Cuffe and Taylor are certainly not resting on their laurels as they look to expand the event in 2023 amid a “real buzz” about the venue within the music industry.

‘An epic venue and crowd… thank you Halifax!’ Noel Gallagher

‘I feel so incredibly lucky to be playing in gorgeous places such as The Piece Hall’ Paloma Faith

‘Thank you for the love Halifax. Another unforgettable night of great vibes’ Nile Rodgers

‘Halifax is fabulous… The Piece Hall is just like Venice!’ Jessie Ware

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, said: “It’s actually quite hard to describe how I’m feeling as Live at The Piece Hall 2022 comes to a close. Epic, incredible, amazing and brilliant are among the words used in the feedback given to me. It was all of that and more.

“It was always the plan to bring world class artists to this iconic building and the partnership with Cuffe and Taylor has made that vision happen. Seeing the sheer joy on faces in the crowds as people came together to experience some absolute musical legends has been so heart-warming.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all the incredibly talented artists who’ve taken to the stage here this year. The feedback from the performers and their teams has been exceptional and I know the word will spread far and wide about how great it is to play at our unique venue and what a phenomenal reception you get from our crowds.

“It will be some task to top this in 2023 but I actually believe we can. The work has already started and I’m incredibly excited at what we have planned.”

This year saw headline shows from the likes of Duran Duran, Paloma Faith, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Tom Grennan, Paul Weller and Primal Scream.

With many of the shows selling out, the gig series smashed the box office records. The shows also delivered a multi-million pound boost for the local economy with many of the thousands of concert goers visiting from outside Yorkshire.

Peter Taylor, co-founder of Cuffe and Taylor which is part of Live Nation – the world’s largest live entertainment company, said: “What an incredible summer it has been at this stunning venue. We knew it was going to be amazing, but the shows here have been something else.

“There is a real buzz right now within the music industry about The Piece Hall. A lot of agents and artists are talking about what has happened here, and we are already having some really exciting conversations about next summer.

“We’ve set the bar very high, but we feel certain next year will be even more incredible. Watch this space!”

The Piece Hall is a unique architectural and cultural wonder. Grade I listed, it originally opened in 1779 for the trading of ‘pieces’ of cloth produced by Yorkshire’s famous woollen mills and is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world.

Now an award-winning contemporary cultural, heritage and live entertainment destination, The Piece Hall has welcomed more than eight million visitors through its historic gates since it re-opened in 2017.

Cuffe and Taylor has extensive experience in staging major concerts in Yorkshire. Since 2016, they have exclusively programmed all live music events at Scarborough Open Air Theatre – including massive headline shows by the likes of Britney Spears, Lionel Richie, Kylie, Stereophonics, Biffy Clyro, Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi.

They are also responsible for staging UK tours with Britney, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey and Little Mix, while also curating major festivals and events such as Lancashire’s Lytham Festival.

EEVAH TO OPEN SHOW FOR MUSIC LEGENDS DURAN DURAN

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Halifax’s very own alt-pop heroes EEVAH have landed the ultimate hometown gig – opening the show for stadium-filling British music icons Duran Duran.

The White Rose purveyors of high-energy indie pop will support the Grammy, BRIT Award and 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees at The Piece Hall, Halifax, on Tuesday July 5.

Final tickets are on sale now via ticketmaster.co.uk

Duran Duran’s show at the historic Yorkshire venue’s stunning open-air courtyard is part of the biggest and best ever line-up for Live At The Piece Hall – with headline shows from the likes of Paul Weller, Tom Jones, Paloma Faith, Jessie Ware and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – plus many more.

EEVAH are singer/songwriter Nicole Hope Smith (vocals/piano) and Richard McNamara of anthemic Yorkshire indie rock chart-topper’s Embrace on guitars and electronics.

With a musical mantra that is all about combining rock and indie, with catchy pop hooks and echoes of the 80s and 90s, they are about to follow up brilliant debut EP ‘Promises’ with new EP ‘Wild Things’

Ahead of their appearance with Duran Duran at The Piece Hall they will release new single ‘Out Of Focus’, on July 1 – just in time to soundtrack everyone’s summer!

The Piece Hall show with Duran Duran will be EEVAH’s biggest gig to date – and one they actually had tickets for long before landing the support slot!

Nicole explained: “We bought four tickets for the show the day they went on sale – there was no way we were going to miss this gig. Now we are playing it!

“This will by far be the biggest gig we have ever played and we absolutely can’t wait!”

EEVAH are opening the night for a band whose place in music history has long been assured.

Duran Duran – singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor – have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. They have scored 18 American hit singles and 21 UK Top 20 tunes – cementing them as one of the most successful and influential bands of all time.

Consistently fusing art, technology, fashion and a signature sense of style with their unique and infectious brand of music, they have proven themselves timeless, always innovating and reinventing, to remain ahead of the curve.

Duran Duran’s 2021 album FUTURE PAST – their highest charting album in 16 years – was met with widespread critical acclaim. It was described as an album “that looks firmly to the future” by Rolling Stone UK, “classic Duran” by The Times, “a blast” by CLASH, and “all a fan could want” by the Evening Standard.

The band will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November alongside fellow 2022 inductees Eminem, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, Judas Priest and Pat Benatar.

Before that they play a series of huge headline concerts in Europe – including their unmissable night at The Piece Hall on July 5.

The show is presented by Cuffe and Taylor and The Piece Hall Trust.  Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, said: “What a moment for EEVAH to be opening the show in our stunning courtyard for music legends Duran Duran.

“I love that we are able to shine the spotlight on local talent by inviting them to play alongside global superstars at Live at The Piece Hall.

“A truly incredible summer of music is heading to Halifax, with the 2022 line up definitely the biggest and best ever.”
