Louisa Johnson Joins Olly Murs On Bill For Lytham Festival 2017

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

X-Factor winner Louisa Johnson will support Olly Murs at Lytham Festival 2017.

The singer-songwriter will perform in the Main Arena at the Festival on Wednesday August 2.

Tickets to see Louisa and Olly Murs are on sale now from www.lythamfestival.com

Louisa shot to fame in 2015 when she became the youngest person ever to win The X-Factor at the age of just 17, with Simon Cowell calling her ‘the best singer he had ever seen on the show’.

The 19-year-old has since had hits with the songs Forever Young and So Good and featured on the Clean Bandit top five single Tears.

R’n’B and pop star Louisa performed last year to 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium with the likes of Ariana Grande and Little Mix. Her debut album is due out this year.

Louisa joins a mega line-up for Lytham Festival 2017 which, as well as Olly Murs, includes headline performances from experimental orchestra Haçienda Classical, 80s and 90s stars The Human League, Midge Ure, and Dodgy, Ska legends Madness and a host of West End stars over five nights in the Lytham Green Main Arena.

Olly Murs shot to fame in 2009 when he came second on The X-Factor. Since then he has recorded four multi-platinum albums and produced four Number 1 singles with total record sales exceeding 10 million.

Lytham Festival director Peter Taylor said having Louisa support Olly will provide audiences with a fantastic night of live entertainment.

He said: “Louisa is a fantastic artist and has a sound which will perfectly compliment the main performance of the night from Olly Murs.

“Olly has enjoyed enormous success since his X-Factor days and appeals to both teens and adults alike. With the announcement now that Louisa Johnson is to support him, Wednesday night at Lytham Festival 2017 just gets better and better.”

VIP tickets and hospitality are available at all events in the main Lytham Green arena.

Racing Returns As Bumper 2017 Gets Underway At Carlisle

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Racing returns to Carlisle this Wednesday as Cumbria’s premier racecourse hosts its first meeting of the year.

And 2017 is already shaping up to be a sensational year both on and off the track at Carlisle Racecourse.

More than £150,000 is being invested in improving facilities including the refurbishment of all hospitality areas – the sumptuous Swifts Restaurant, located on the first floor of The Grandstand, as well as The Patterson and Red Rum bars.

A number of improvements are also being made to the course including work to increase drainage in some lower parts of the flat, hurdles and chase tracks.

There are a total of 26 race meetings this year which promise to be fun for all the family.

They kick-off on Wednesday and some of the nation’s leading trainers – including Jonjo O’Neill, Mick Channon, David Pipe and Donald McCain – have runners entered.

O’Neill includes Big Penny, an impressive winner by 10 lengths last time out in Ireland, together with Join The Clan and Celtic Tune who will look to go one better than their recent second places at Chepstow and Hereford respectively.

Elsewhere, local favourite and Brampton-trained Carrigdhoun will be looking to make it three wins from three runs at Carlisle, having won twice here back in October including a thrilling triumph in the Red Rum Day meeting.

He is one of two Maurice Barnes trained runners, the other being Oishin who won on his last time out at Newcastle.

McCain tops the entries list with nine runners, including Lastbutnotleast who won last time out at Hexham in December, following on from placing first and second in her first two races.

On top of the mid-week afternoon and evening meetings Carlisle hosts weekend racing on Sunday March 19th; Saturday April 15th (the annual Easter Family Fun Day); Saturday July 8th; Sunday November 5th, Sunday December 3rd (the new Northern Lights meeting with £150,000 prize money is up for grabs) and Sunday December 17th.

There are a number of music events this year at Carlisle Racecourse with chart-topper and Brit Award nominee Jess Glynne performing live after racing on Saturday July 8th.

The annual Ladies Day #AmazingMonday – the world’s only all-female jockey race event – is on Monday August 7th. BBC Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley will host a special ‘Party In The Paddock’ following the racing.

Geraldine McKay, Carlisle Racecourse’s General Manager, said: “We can’t wait to open the gates on Wednesday and get racing underway here at Carlisle.

“We are very excited about 2017. We have some wonderful events such as #AmazingMonday, our live music event on July 8th with Jess Glynne and the many family racedays.

“But above all we are looking forward to another fantastic year of racing. We have some great meetings over the next 12 months including our very first Northern Lights meeting which is a brand new and top class fixture for Cumbria.

“We are sure that what we have lined up for this year will bring many new faces here. We can’t wait to welcome them together with our regular racegoers and show off the improvements we have made to our facilities.

“So come on down and enjoy a wonderful day of racing in 2017.”

Tickets for Wednesday’s meeting are £14.00 (in advance) or £17.00 (on the day). Under-17s get in free when accompanied by an adult. Gates open 11.50am. First race 1.50pm, last race 4.30pm.

Carlisle Racecourse Set For Sensationally Stylish 2017

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

2017 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest and best years ever at Carlisle Racecourse… and, let’s face it, one of its most sensationally stylish!

Tickets for Jess Glynne’s show on July 8 continue to fly out of the door – easily the fastest-selling music event the Cumbrian Racecourse has ever staged.

And we are now delighted to reveal BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley will be the post-race host for #AmazingMonday on August 7. Jo will lead a ‘Party In The Paddock’ at our annual Ladies Day with what promises to be an electrifying DJ-set.

#AmazingMonday has rapidly become Carlisle’s most devilishly chic day out of the year, one which oozes style, glamour and fun.

And Jo is clearly relishing her day out in Cumbria. She said: “This is going to be a fantastic day. Carlisle is a wonderful city, and Carlisle Racecourse is at the forefront of supporting and celebrating women in racing so I cannot wait for August 7 – it’s going to be such a big party!”

Now in its seventh year, #AmazingMonday is a day Carlisle Racecourse is truly proud of – the world’s only all-female jockey race meeting.

And given the ethos of the day, which is to celebrate, empower and promote women in racing,  Jo is the perfect choice to lead our post-race ‘Party In The Paddock’.

Jo is not only one of our top national broadcasters, but a true champion of women in music.

Together with the party atmosphere in the stands and around the course – where fine food, fabulous fashion (and dare we say it the odd glass of fizz) are the order of the day, there is the serious business on the track.

#AmazingMonday is at the forefront of bringing through and developing women in racing. 2016 saw the introduction of the Jockey Club North West Development Award for female jockeys.

This unique award is presented to the jockey who rides a winner at Carlisle’s #AmazingMonday fixture and then goes on to win the Ladies’ Trophy Handicap Stakes at Haydock Park.

Last year, Cumbria’s own Emma Sayer secured the £20,000 Development Award prize which provides an opportunity for personal development and support for female jockeys.

#AmazingMonday is a wonderful event on so many levels – be they sporting or social – so we cannot wait for this year’s meeting to get underway.

So, come on ladies, what are you waiting for? Secure your place at the party of the year and… LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE GIRLS!

Haçienda Classical Will Bring Classic Club Anthems to Lytham Festival 2017

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Haçienda Classical – the stunning live music event which brings the iconic sounds and unique atmosphere of the legendary club – is heading to Lytham Festival in 2017.

The critically acclaimed show, which has been a smash hit with dance and classical fans young and old since its debut in 2016, will headline the Main Proms Arena at Lytham Festival on Thursday August 3.

Tickets are on sale now from www.lythamfestival.com or ticketmaster

Haçienda Classical sees the DJs who shaped ground-breaking Haçienda’s sound – Mike Pickering and Graeme Park – collaborate with the Manchester Camerata for a night of classic dance music, innovatively adapted and arranged especially for the occasion.

Speaking about the set for Lytham Festival, Graeme Park said: “I’ve got a spreadsheet. We’re going to keep a few that really work well but largely we’re looking to bring in a whole load of new tracks. We have so many to choose from.

“Over the summer I’ve been playing in Sankeys in Ibiza on Wednesday, playing nothing but 88 to 92 Acid house so I’ve been keeping track of what’s been working and what isn’t, and making a list.

“There’s quite a few tracks there people might have forgotten. Some of them I will need to run past Tim because I’ve got some wacky ideas. All I can tell you is that it’s got around 20 tracks in it, maybe 18.”

2017 is the second year of gigs for Haçienda Classical and will see the seminal tracks that defined a generation at the original club, recreated, renewed afresh and rearranged for a classical orchestra.

Lytham Festival director Peter Taylor added: “Bringing Haçienda Classical to Lytham Festival is really exciting for us as this will provide something completely different for our traditional audience.

“The beauty of Haçienda Classical is that it has such a wide appeal. Whether you are a regular clubber, you want to reminisce about your youth or you enjoy the appeal of something completely new presented by magnificently talented musicians – without a doubt this will be a stunning night on Lytham Green.”

In addition to Haçienda Classical on Thursday August 3, Lytham 2017 will also see headline acts taking to the stage in the Main Proms Arena over a further four nights.

Wednesday August 2 sees chart topping pop star Olly Murs kick off the headlining nights. Since Olly shot to fame in 2009, he has recorded four multi-platinum albums and produced four Number 1 singles with total record sales exceeding 10 million.

Friday August 4 is 80s/90s night with live music from electronic new wave band The Human League, Scots singer-songwriter Midge Ure, 90s pop rock trio Dodgy, 80s bands Johnny Hates Jazz and Living in a Box featuring Kenny Thomas, Belgian electronic musicians Technotronic, British-Norwegian 90s pop group A1 and pop rap artist Betty Boo.

Saturday night will see Ska legends Madness headline. The Camden stars have maintained a huge and loyal following since the 1970s and most recently released their 12th studio album Can’t Touch Us Now.

The Traditional Last Night of the Proms night on Sunday August 6 will see the week-long festival close with West End Proms as a string of West End and Broadway stars all take to the stage. Miss Saigon star Lea Salonga, star of Les Miserable and Phantom of the Opera Ramin Karimloo, musical theatre group Collabro, Olivier Award winner Ruthie Henshall, Chicago star Claire Sweeney, 90s pop sensation turned musical theatre star Jon Lee, Blackpool musical theatre star Jodie Prenger, Lytham-born rising West End star Lucie Mae Sumner and English National Opera soprano Jo Appleby will all come together to create West End Proms.

Tickets for Lytham Festival are on sale now priced from £35 and are available from www.lythamfestival.com or by calling 0844 8154874.

Limited weekend tickets, The Pass, are also available covering all performances in the main Lytham Green arena from Weds 2– Sun 6 August priced at £175.

West End & Broadway Stars Return To Lytham Festival 2017

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

West End and Broadway stars will return to Lytham Festival’s spectacular Last Night of the Proms for 2017.

The week-long festival in August 2017 will see in excess of 70 thousand people visit the town on the North West’s Fylde Coast.

And for the final act of the festival on Sunday August 6 the show “West End Proms”, produced exclusively for Lytham, will see a string of stars including Miss Saigon’ Lea Salonga, star of Les Miserable and Phantom of the Opera Ramin Karimloo, musical theatre group Collabro, Olivier Award winner Ruthie Henshall, Chicago star Claire Sweeney, 90s pop sensation turned musical theatre star Jon Lee, Blackpool musical theatre star Jodie Prenger, Lytham-born rising West End star Lucie Mae Sumner and English National Opera soprano Jo Appleby all take to the stage.

Tickets are on sale now from www.lythamfestival.com

The stars of both stage and screen will perform an array of hits with a full 60-piece orchestra. The evening will end with a traditional Last Night of the Proms finale – an event when families and live music lovers are encouraged to pack up their candelabras and picnic hampers for an evening of musical celebration.

A sell-out West End Proms was scheduled for Lytham Festival 2016 but high winds resulted in the concert being cancelled and following demands from the public, festival organisers have decided the show must return – with the same dazzling line-up.

Lytham Festival director Peter Taylor said he is delighted to be bringing West End Proms back.

Peter said: “This was a sensational line up last year and it’s a sensational line up for 2017. We were devastated when the weather caused us to cancel West End Proms for 2016 and we were inundated with people who had attended asking us to reschedule for 2017, so that is exactly what we have done.

“Once again, I can promise this really is going to be a spectacular show and I personally cannot wait to see all these stars back in Lytham again.

“It is also testament to the success of Lytham Festival that everyone involved in 2016’s West End Proms wants to return for 2017. Everyone was upset as we all knew what an amazing show was about to be seen so get ready for West End Proms 2017 as it is going to be amazing.”

Tickets priced from £39.50 are on sale now from www.lythamfestival.com or by calling 0844 8154874.

Limited weekend tickets, The Pass, are also available covering all performances in the main Lytham Green arena from Weds 2– Sun 6 August priced at £175.
