The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper celebrated with 50th anniversary show at Lytham Festival 2017

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Lytham Festival will celebrate the music of The Beatles this summer with a special tribute to the Fab Four.

Fifty years after The Beatles released their ground-breaking 1967 album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Mersey Beatles will perform a special anniversary show at Lytham Festival 2017.

The nation’s favourite all-Liverpool born Beatles tribute band are bringing a two-hour live show to the Festival’s Pavilion Stage at Lowther Pavilion on Wednesday, August 2nd.

Tickets go on sale Friday May 19th at 9am from lythamfestival.com and lowtherpavilion.co.uk

This stunning two-part show will see the band – who are currently on a major tour of America – perform the Sgt Pepper album in its entirety. A sensational second half will take the audience on a journey through the Fab Four’s legendary hit-packed back catalogue – from the songs of Beatlemania to Abbey Road.

The Mersey Beatles were the resident Beatles tribute band at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club for 10 years, between 2002-2012. They have played more than 600 shows at the world-famous venue – twice as many as The Beatles themselves!

And when it comes to stage performance, The Mersey Beatles brilliantly exude the inner and outer spirit of the original Fab Four, from the costumes, the haircuts, the instruments and, of course, the unmistakable live sound.

When asked about The Mersey Beatles performances Joe Flannery, Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein’s assistant, said: “When I saw them play in The Cavern, they perfectly recreated the atmosphere that the original Beatles produced. It was like listening to The Beatles again.”

Since leaving The Cavern to tour the world, The Mersey Beatles – who are Steven Howard, David Howard, Mark Bloor and Brian Ambrose – have wowed audiences around the globe and are this year headlining shows in America, Germany and Norway.

Lytham Festival Director Peter Taylor said: “This is going to be a really special night at Lytham Festival. The Mersey Beatles are a sensational band who perfectly capture the spirit and sound of The Beatles brilliantly.

“We cannot think of a better way to celebrate arguably the most important album ever recorded than by having Liverpool’s favourite, most authentic tribute to The Beatles perform Sgt Pepper live in its entirety.

“The second half will be a total Beatles party packed with the hits we all know and love. We’d advise Beatles fans to get their tickets now because this is going to be a night to remember!”

The Mersey Beatles join a mega line-up for Lytham Festival 2017 which includes headline performances by Olly Murs, Haçienda Classical, 80s and 90s stars The Human League, Midge Ure, and Dodgy, Ska legends Madness and a host of West End stars over five nights in the Lytham Green Main Arena.

CLEAN CUT KID TO SUPPORT KAISER CHIEFS AT SCARBOROUGH OAT

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Clean Cut Kid will be joining Kaiser Chiefs when the Brit Award winning indie greats play at Scarborough Open Air Theatre next week.

Kaiser Chiefs are heading to Europe’s largest open air theatre on Saturday May 27th for what promises to be a sensational Yorkshire homecoming.

And main support on the night will be Clean Cut Kid who are rightly regarded as one of the fastest-rising bands in the UK right now.

The Liverpool four-piece released their debut album Felt – featuring such stunning tracks as Vitamin C, Leaving You Behind, Stay, Pick Me Up and Make Believe – to widespread acclaim earlier this month.

In the last year, Clean Cut Kid have played more than 100 live shows, 30-plus festivals across the world, and recently starred on the Topman/NME Tour and Live at Leeds.

North West indie rockers New York Tourists will open the Scarborough OAT show.

Peter Taylor, director of Scarborough OAT promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “Saturday May 27 is going to be an amazing night for indie rock fans and we are delighted to be adding Clean Cut Kid to the bill.

“They are one of the most exciting and talked about bands around, who’ve just released their brilliant debut album, so to be bringing them to Scarborough with Kaiser Chiefs is a real bonus.”

Since bursting into the nation’s psyche in 2004, Kaiser Chiefs have scored two Number One albums and a string of hits including the sing-along anthems
I Predict a Riot, Oh My God and UK Number One single Ruby.

2016 saw Kaiser Chiefs return with a headline slot at V Festival before the release of their sixth album Stay Together which included the euphoric, pop-infused singles Parachute and Hole In My Soul.

Kaiser Chiefs join Little Mix, The Jackson, Jess Glynne, Olly Murs, Madness, Cliff Richard, The Beach Boys, UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey Virtue, George Benson, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, 80s v 90s night and indie stars The Charlatans among the star-studded headliners at Scarborough OAT for 2017.

Tickets for Kaiser Chiefs at Scarborough OAT, priced from £29.50, are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk (0844 844 0444) and www.scarboroughopenairtheatre.com or in person from Scarborough Open Air Theatre Box Office (01723 818111) and the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau (01723 383636).

North West Festival Secures Five Charity Partners

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

The North West’s biggest live music festival is welcoming five charity partners for 2017.

Lytham Festival hopes to attract around 100,000 people to Lancashire’s Fylde coast for the seven-day event taking place from Monday July 31 to Sunday August 6.

And rather than work with just one charity partner, festival organisers have decided to work with five this year in a bid to help each charity raise as much money as possible.

Teenage Cancer Trust and Meningitis Now are both onboard as national charities and Lytham Festival will also be partnering with three charities local to the event – Brian House Children’s Hospice, Blackpool Carers and youth work charity Streetlife.

Lytham Festival director Peter Taylor said: “It is very exciting to welcome five charity partners to be part of Lytham Festival 2017.

“Historically our audiences at Lytham Festival have been very generous making donations to our chosen charity partner and this year we decided we would like to reach out to more charities to ensure as many people as possible can benefit from these donations.

“We have selected different nights for each charity to be involved with and by doing so we have partnered the charities with the headline acts where we believe the audiences will relate to their fundraising best.

“I hope all five charities have a really successful Lytham Festival and we look forward to working with them.”

An army of charity volunteers will be evident throughout the Main Proms Arena on Lytham Green for each headline event in the hope of encouraging festival-goers to donate.

Teenage Cancer Trust will be the charity partner for Olly Murs on Wednesday August 2, Streetlife for Haçienda Classical on Thursday 3, Blackpool Carers for 80s V 90s on Friday 4, Brian House for Madness on Saturday 5 and Meningitis Now for West End Proms on Sunday 6.

Vanessa Simmons, North West Regional Fundraising Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We are hugely grateful to be one of the Lytham Festival’s chosen charity partners. The money raised will help us with our ambitious goal to reach every young person with cancer in the UK.”

Streetlife CEO Jane Hugo said: “Streetlife is absolutely thrilled to be a charity partner for the Lytham Festival.  This is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness about Youth Homelessness and the support that Streetlife can offer to vulnerable young people across the Fylde coast.”

Faye Atherton, Head of Services at Blackpool Carers, said: “Blackpool Carers Centre is thrilled to be a charity partner of the prestigious Lytham Festival.  This event is a great opportunity to highlight and celebrate the selfless work of unpaid family carers.”

Michelle Lonican, Community Fundraiser for Brian House Children’s Hospice, said: “Lytham Festival is a vibrant community event that brings so much to the Fylde Coast, so it’s a real pleasure to be involved and a wonderful opportunity to raise our profile – and some funds – during the Brian House 21st birthday year.”

Roya Armstrong, North of England Community Fundraiser for Meningitis Now, said: “Meningitis Now is thrilled to be one of the partner charities for this year’s Lytham festival. This is even more poignant to us, after local boy Edward Dee sadly died in December after contracting the disease.

“We are dedicated to raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis, and we will continue to support families like Edward’s through the kind donations we receive.”

HOLLYWOOD STAR TO JOIN THE BEACH BOYS IN SCARBOROUGH THIS SUMMER

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Award-winning Hollywood star John Stamos is set to join The Beach Boys on stage as they headline Scarborough Open Air Theatre this May.

The music legends – who have sold more than 100 million records worldwide – head to the Yorkshire coast on Wednesday May 24th for what promises to be a stunning night at Europe’s largest open air theatre.

Tickets for the show are on sale now from www.ticketmaster.co.uk

This show is part of The Beach Boys’ Wild Honey World Tour across the USA, UK, and Europe. The tour – which continues into autumn 2017 – features the band’s beloved summer sound as they perform a mix of their greatest hits and fan favourites. The Wild Honey World Tour follows The Beach Boy’s highly successful 50 Years of Good Vibrations Tour.

Actor and musician John Stamos  is set to join the band on tour from May 24th – June 5th. Stamos has made numerous guest appearances with The Beach Boys since 1985 and, in 1988, he appeared in the video for their U.S. number one hit single, Kokomo. Stamos also served as an Executive Producer for the 2000 film The Beach Boys: An American Family.

Beach Boys co-founder, lyricist and singer Mike Love said: “We have known John for many years since, right back to when he was in General Hospital in the 1980s. He is a huge Beach Boys fan and supporter.

“He was involved in producing a film on the band and he loves nothing more than playing drums with us on stage. We back him up when he sings Forever (a song Stamos performed twice on Full House and its Netflix follow-up Fuller House). He is a great guy and close friend so we are thrilled he will be joining us for our shows in the UK this summer.”

Stamos burst onto the scene as a teen idol in 1985 when he landed the role of Blackie Parrish in General Hospital. He then took on the iconic role of Jesse Katsopolis in the cult comedy Full House which ran for eight years and 192 episodes. He played Dr Tony Gates in ER for four years, and has appeared in network hits including Glee, Scream Queens, Two and a Half Men, Jake in Progress, Grandfathered (for which he won a People’s Choice Award) and starred in films such as Never Too Young to Die, Born To Ride, My Man Is a Loser and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

Formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, The Beach Boys have scored more than 80 worldwide chart hits – 36 of them US Top 40 hits with four topping the Billboard Hot 100. Classics such as I Get Around, Sloop John B, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Surfin’ USA, Fun, Fun, Fun and the Grammy nominated Good Vibrations have multi-generational appeal and few, if any, acts can match The Beach Boys’ concert presence, spirit and performance.

The band is led by co-founder, principal lyricist and New York Times best-selling author Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who along with Jeffrey Foskett, Brian Eichenburger, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill and Scott Totten continue the legacy of the iconic American band.

Tickets for The Beach Boys at Scarborough OAT on Wednesday May 24th are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk (0844 844 0444) and www.scarboroughopenairtheatre.com or in person from Scarborough Open Air Theatre Box Office (01723 818111) and the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau (01723 383636).

“It’s going to be an amazing night in Yorkshire. It’s a homecoming gig for the Kaisers so we’ll certainly play our part in getting the crowd really going for what is going to be a great gig.”

Easter Fun For All The Family As Grand National Winner Goes For Glory At Carlisle

By Rhodes Media BlogsNo Comments

Exactly a week on from One For Arthur’s spectacular triumph at Aintree, Randox Grand National winning trainer Lucinda Russell is going for more glory at Carlisle’s bumper Easter Saturday meeting.

Russell, who became only the second Scottish-based trainer to saddle a National winner, has two entries in Carlisle’s seven-strong race card – Settledoutofcourt and Catch The Moonlight.

Settledoutofcourt, with jockey Stephen Mulqueen, won last time out at Hexham in March and the 11-year-old gelding is in a rich vein of form having posted three second places since November. He goes over 3m2f at Carlisle in the Totepool Happy Easter Handicap Chase.

Catch The Moonlight, ridden by Blair Campbell, was also a winner at Hexham in November and has placed twice over the jumps since then.

Elsewhere, in-form jockey Brian Hughes – currently second in The Stobart Jump Jockey’s Championship behind Richard Johnson – has a ride booked in every race at Carlisle on Saturday. They include John Mackie’s Barton Knoll, Malcolm Jefferson’s Gully’s Edge and Tom Gretton’s Your Turn.

Trainer Donald McCain has two runners on the day – both winners last time out. They include Princess Mononoke, a winner by a storming 24 lengths at Hexham on March 16, and Askamore Darsi, a recent winner at Sedgefield over 3m3f. He goes over the shorter 3m1f distance in the @Totepool Follow Us On Twitter Handicap Hurdle in which he is heavily fancied.

And it won’t just be the action on the track that will be grabbing the attention on what promises to be a cracking family fun day at Carlisle Racecourse

On top of seven top class National Hunt races families will be able to throw themselves into Horseplay – a special Wild West-themed day out at Cumbria’s premier racecourse.

And the great news is all under-17s can get in on the day absolutely free!

Attractions include: Fancy Dress competition with a horses, jockeys and Wild West theme; A ‘Quick Draw’ Simulator; Welly Wanging Competition; Horseshoe Tossing; Bucking Bronco; Shetland Pony Grooming; Easter Egg Hunt and a Colouring Competition.

Many of the attractions – including a bucking bronco, ‘quick draw’ simulator and fancy dress competitions – have a Wild West and horse theme, but the highlight of the day will be a Welly Wanging competition with a very special prize.

The racecourse is offering FREE ENTRANCE FOR LIFE to anyone who can beat the current Guinness World Record marks for the longest throw.

The Welly Wang records of 63.98m (men) and 40.87 (women) were set in 1996 by Finnish pair Teppo Luoma and Sari Tirkkon.

Geraldine McKay, Carlisle Racecourse’s General Manager (pictured above with race day announcer Gordon Brown giving welly wanging a go) said: “Our Easter Saturday race day is always one of the highlights of the year here at Carlisle Racecourse.

“We have seven cracking races lined up with very strong fields and away from the action on the track we have a whole host of activities and events to make this a wonderful family day out.

“We love our family fun days and this Easter we wanted to try something different – and what could be more different than trying to break the world record for Welly Wanging at a racecourse?

“So come on down, enjoy the fun and remember all under-17s get in absolutely free!”

Tickets for the day on Saturday April 15th are £14 (in advance) or £17 (on the day) for adults. Under-17s get in free when accompanied by a paying adult. Gates open 11.45am; First race 1.45pm; Last race 5pm
