STARS OF STAGE AND SCREEN TO STAR IN WONDERLAND AT OPERA HOUSE

TV favourite Wendi Peters and musical theatre star Dave Willets will take audiences down the rabbit hole when musical Wonderland comes to Blackpool next year.

The multi Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk Award nominated show arrives at Blackpool Opera House from 10 – 15 April 2017 following sold out seasons and rave reviews in Texas, Tampa and Tokyo.

The Blackpool dates are part of the show’s first ever UK tour, giving audiences the chance to see this hugely popular adaptation of Lewis Carrol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

TV and West End star Wendi Peters, best known for her role as Cilla Battersby, in ITV’s Coronation Street will headline the show as the Queen of Hearts.

She will be joined by Dave Willets in the role of the White Rabbit. Dave has enjoyed a glittering 25-year career on the stage with highlights including Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Cats.

Further casting is yet to be announced.

Produced by Neil Eckersley, Wonderland has music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy, book by Jack Murphy and Gregory Boyd with UK adaptation by Ava Eldred. Full Cast Announced For Ghost – The Musical

A host of musical theatre stars will join pop star Sarah Harding and TV heart-throb Andy Moss when Ghost – The Musical heads to Blackpool.

West End star Jacqui Duboiswill take on the role of Oda Mae Brown which was made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the film of the same name.

Also taking to the stage will be Sam Feriday as Carl, Leo Sene as Willie, James Earl Adair as the Hospital Ghost, Gary Lee Netley as the Subway Ghost, Tarisha Rommick as Louise and Simbi Akande as Clara. Completing the cast will be Lori Baker, Ethan Bradshaw, Lauren Drew, Matthew Vinetot, Mike Ward and Kelly Hampson.

They will join Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding who will star as Molly and former Hollyoaks heart-throb Andy Mosswho plays Sam.

Producer Bill Kenwright said: “ Ghost is a story full of hope, and is one of those films which never leaves you.

“The book by Bruce Joel Rubin and score by Dave Stewart and Glenn Ballad come together wonderfully in one of my favourite new musicals in years.”

The show, which takes its inspiration from the classic film, is set to be an innovative reimagining of the story with an expanded book, original staging and new music.

The double academy award winning film was both a critical and box office success when it was released in 1990 and starred the late Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Tony Goldwyn and Whoopi Goldberg.

Cast Announced for The Rocky Horror Show At Blackpool Opera House

The Rocky Horror Show has announced a glittering cast for its run at Blackpool Opera House this Autumn.

The iconic role of The Narrator will be played by Punt & Dennis star Steve Punt.

S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole and Liam Tamne, who shot to fame in series two of The Voice, continue to excite audiences in the roles of Eddie/Dr Scott and Dr Frank N Furter respectively. The title role of Rocky is played by Dominic Andersen. Janet will be played by theatre star Haley Flaherty. Completing the cast are Rocky favourites Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff and Richard Meek, who plays Brad.

Themusical horror comedy will run at the Opera House from Monday September 26 to Saturday October 1.

The 2016 UK Tour of the Rocky Horror Show has now been seen by more than 230,000 people, grossing more than £5million at the box office since its first performance atBrighton’s Theatre Royal in December 2015.

Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show was first performed on 19 June 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre and has become the world’s favourite Rock N’ Roll musical, having been performed worldwide for more than 40 years in more than 30 countries and translated into more than 20 languages.

It tells the story of Brad and his fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids, who meet Dr Frank N Furter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house while on their way to visit their former college professor. It is an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks, and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits.

HIT MUSICAL COMEDY SISTER ACT IS COMING TO BLACKPOOL IN 2017

Hit musical comedy Sister Act is coming to Blackpool’s Opera House in summer 2017.

It is announced today (WEDS 3 AUGUST) that the brand new production will star X-Factor winner and musical theatre star Alexandra Burke in the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier.

This reimagined stage show of the hit film will be directed and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing judge and Blackpool favourite Craig Revel Horwood.

Based on the smash hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith, SISTER ACT tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Alexandra Burke rose to fame when she won the fifth series of X-Factor and since then has supported the likes of Beyonce on tour as well as appearing in the lead role in the stage adaptation of The Bodyguard.

At the matinee performances, the role of Deloris Van Cartier will be played by Joanna Francis. Joanna Francis has recently finished performing in the West End production of The Lion King. Her other credits include Carmen Jones at the Royal Festival Hall, The Harder They Come” at the Barbican and Stratford East and as Sybil in The Big Life at the Apollo Theatre.

Today’s announcement is the third show to be unveiled for Blackpool Opera House in 2017 after it was revealed earlier this year that Wonderland – a musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass – will run at the venue next April, and last month it was announced a sparkling new production of The Wedding Singer starring Jon Robyns, Ray Quinn, Cassie Compton, Roxanne Pallett and Ruth Madoc is coming to the venue next July.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds To Soar At The Seaside

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are set to perform two seaside concerts in a row on opposite sides of the country and tickets are selling out fast.

Kicking off the double bill at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Wednesday August 3, Noel will perform to a capacity crowd before hot footing it across the Pennines to Lytham Festival to perform Thursday August 4.

The concerts are organised by promoters Cuffe and Taylor who arrange both the Scarborough Open Air Theatre concerts and Lytham Festival, the largest festival in the North West.

Director Peter Taylor said: “We cannot wait for Noel’s gigs at Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Lytham Festival.

“Tickets have been flying out of the door and we’re sure that both nights are going to be capacity crowds with an electric atmosphere.”

The gig at Scarborough Open Air Theatre will be the first time Noel has played live in Scarborough and with less than 8,000 tickets available for the unique venue, tickets are selling out fast.

The following night’s Lytham gig will mark the first time multi-award winning singer and songwriter Noel has played live on the Lancashire Coast since October 1995 when his former band Oasis performed a now legendary show at Blackpool’s iconic Empress Ballroom on the very day the landmark album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory was released.

Stage and Screen Stars Cast for Great Expectations in Blackpool

A mixture a stars from stage, screen and the world of pop will lead the cast in the hit musical and classic story Great Expectations at Blackpool Opera House this Christmas.

It is announced today that veteran TV and stage actor Chris Ellison will play convict Magwitch in the musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic while former soap and pop star Adam Rickitt will play Pip, the young man with great expectations.

They will be joined by musical theatre stars Maureen Nolan as Miss Havisham and Helena Blackman will play Estelle, the young woman who bewitches Pip.

Great Expectations is produced by Peter Frosdick and will run at the Blackpool Opera House from Saturday December 10 to Saturday January 7. Tickets are on-sale now from www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk

Speaking about the casting Peter said: “I am delighted we have secured Chris, Adam, Maureen and Helena for these incredibly important roles in Great Expectations.

“All have fantastic experience and I am confident they will bring something very special to their respective parts.

“Great Expectations is a wonderful story and absolutely fantastic musical which I am delighted to be producing for Blackpool Opera House.”

Chris Ellison is best known for his role as DI Burnside in ITV show The Bill but with a career spanning more than 40 years he has worked extensively in theatre and TV. Credits in that time include The Professionals, Minder, The Sweeney and EastEnders, West End leads including Magwitch and Oliver’s Bill Sykes, and even a stint in the Celebrity Big Brother House.

Adam Rickitt rose to fame as young Nick Tilsley in Coronation Street in the late 1990s. He then went on to carve a career in pop music while also playing roles in the UK tour of Rent as well as West End productions. Adam is also a household name in New Zealand after being cast in the popular soap Shortland Street for three years.

No stranger to the stage, Maureen Nolan has been singing with her sisters since she was nine-years- old when they formed The Nolans. The band’s success is legendary but Maureen is also an accomplished actress and musical theatre star with credits including Blood Brothers, Girl’s Behind, Mum’s the Wordand The Naked Truth.

She will also be on the Opera House stage earlier in the year as she is playing Vi Moore in the UK tour of Footloose: The Musical when it comes to Blackpool in September.

Helena Blackman came to prominence as a finalist in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?She has starred in numerous West End and touring productions as well as performing in concert on TV and radio.

With the opening scenes on Christmas Eve, Great Expectations begins with escaped convict Magwitch being pursued by soldiers. As Young Pip appears through the mist he encounters the gross Magwitch and so begins the tangled tale of the young gentleman, the beautiful Estelle, the jilted Miss Havisham and of course, the convict.

With a spectacular musical score the audience will follow Pip and his great expectation as he journeys through life and hardship to eventually find love in the arms of the woman who has had him spellbound since childhood.

Gusto Appoints New Business Development Manager

Gusto has appointed Maddy Fullalove as Business Development Manager for its new Lytham restaurant.

The premium restaurant brand opened its Lytham site amid much expectation and excitement in April and has already carved a reputation for stylish fine dining in the beautiful Lancashire coastal town.

Maddy, 28, joins Gusto from Revolution where she was sales and marketing manager at its sites in Blackpool and Manchester.

Maddy said: “I am delighted to join such a prestigious company as Gusto. I am relishing the opportunity and I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“The restaurant in Lytham is stunning and the feedback we have received from customers since opening has been wonderful. Fantastic customer service is absolutely at the heart of everything we do and that is central to my role here.

“I love getting out there and engaging with the community and other local businesses to talk about how we can work together.”

Maddy, whose role as Business Development Manager sees her handle all marketing, events as well as building key relationships with local businesses and partners, hails from Clitheroe and was educated at Stonyhurst College and the London College of Fashion.

Sue Crimes, Gusto’s managing director, said: “We really have been wowed by the welcome Gusto has received since we opened the doors of our new Lytham restaurant.

“It is absolutely vital we work with the local community and other local businesses to build relationships. Bringing in someone of Maddy’s calibre, and someone who has such a real passion for the local area, was vital.

Gusto – which has 14 restaurants across the UK – invested more than £1 million in the 4,000sq ft restaurant and bar in Lytham, the company’s first outlet in Lancashire.

The company created 60 new jobs when the restaurant, situated on Dicconson Terrace, opened in April.

Events coming up include:

July 26 – British Red Cross Diamond Dinner. Tickets £40 to include Prosecco reception, three-course dinner, with guest Neil Geddes, a fine jewellery concierge who will show and talk about diamonds.

July 30 – Gusto is sponsoring 3,000 water bottles for the Trinity Colour Splash Run on the beach and staff will be there on the day helping and supporting the charity.

August 17 – Ladies lunch with Neom Organics and Stringers. Tickets £20 to include two-course lunch, spritz cocktail and talk and demonstration of Neom products by Stringers.

August 24 – Chase Vodka Tasting. Tickets £35 to include three-course dinner and five different vodkas from the Chase Distillery Range. Ben Hills from Chase will present the range and give a full run through of the spirits and how to use them in cocktails and food.

August 28 – late night cocktail club in the bar, DJ 9pm-1am, all cocktails £4.95 all night

September 30 – Macmillan coffee morning. Tickets £10, £5 to cover tea and coffee supplied by Gusto and £5 to Macmillan. Guests are asked to bring along cakes.

Families Are Spoilt For Choice At Lytham Festival

Families are going to be spoilt for choice at Lytham Festival this year with everything from outdoor cinema to workshops, art trails to the full proms experience and all right beside the seaside.

The idyllic locations of the Lytham Proms Main Arena and Lytham Hall will host screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and children’s classic Labyrinth, while at the World Jazz Stage there aredrumming and song writing workshops.

Children and families can also explore the town by tracking down the CounterPART art installations which have taken over the streets of leafy Lytham.

Lytham Festival Director Peter Taylor said “We are always determined to make sure that Lytham Festival is one that can be enjoyed by all the family.

“We’ve expanded the outdoor cinema events to include a special screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Lytham Green and of course Labyrinth is a children’s classic that celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

“Families can also get involved in the two fabulous musical workshops taking place at the World Jazz Stage and stroll through Lytham exploring the CounterPART installations – there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Kicking off the week on Monday 1 August at Lytham Hall there will be a chance for film buffs to celebrate the life of the late David Bowie with an outdoor screening of musical fantasy adventure Labyrinth. Released in 1986 and directed by Jim Henson, the film sees Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) set out to rescue her baby brother from the clutches of the Goblin King (David Bowie).

On Wednesday 3 August head to the Main Arena on Lytham Green for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Presented by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the 7th Star Wars episode was released in December 2015, seeing the return of favourite characters Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) amongst others. The film is also the highest grossing of all the Star Wars films and the third highest grossing movie of all time taking more than $2bn dollars at the Box Office.

The World Jazz Stageoffers two musical workshops that are suitable for children, giving all the family the chance to explore the world of music.

Children can try their hand at drumming on Saturday 6 August with two special Drumming Workshops facilitated by professional musicians and teaching the basics of drumming, rhythm and beats with a healthy dose of fun thrown in.

Things take a turn for the serene on Sunday 7 August when aspiring lyricists can put pen to paper with two Song Writing Workshops. Supported by professional musicians, children will explore the basics of rhyme and rhythm, and find inspiration for what could be the next big thing.

Both the drumming and song writing workshops run at 10am and 2pm and will last approximately two hours with a performance at the end by the musicians.

The CounterPART art installation trailruns for the whole week throughout the town and maps are available from the Lytham Festival Box Office in Lytham Piazza. The trail is completely free and will give families the chance to explore the town and experience the artwork while taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the Festival.

Pop Star Amelia Lily Completes Line Up For Mod Musical Shout!

Pop star and former X-Factor finalist Amelia Lily is to complete the line-up of hit Mod Musical SHOUT! when it heads to Blackpool Opera House this Autumn.

Amelia Lily joins Suzanne Shaw, Liz McClarnon, Niki Evans and Helena Blackman who have all previously been announced.

Amelia rose to fame back in 2011 when she finished third on the eighth series of The X-Factor. Her debut single You Bring Me Joy reached number two in the UK Singles Chart and since then Amelia has carved herself a career in musical theatre with credits including Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Green Day’s hit punk rock musical American Idiot.

Speaking about her role as Yellow Girl in SHOUT! Amelia said: “I can’t wait to get to Blackpool and start Shout! It contains some of my favourite music. I’m joining a talented group of girls to bring this infectious musical to life and I can’t wait to open at the Winter Gardens later this year.’

West End, TV and former pop star Suzanne Shaw will lead the cast in the hit jukebox musical playing Red Girl and joining her will be Atomic Kitten and musical theatre star Liz McClarnon as Green Girl and former X-Factor finalist and musical theatre star Niki Evans as Orange Girl. Blue Girl will be played by Helena Blackman who, after rising to fame in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TV show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, has played countless roles in the West End.

SHOUT! is billed as the ultimate mod musical as this smashing revue tracks five groovy gals as they come of age during those liberating days that made England swing and includes a packed soundtrack of some of the biggest hits from the 1960s.

SHOUT! flips through the years like a musical magazine and takes you back to the music, fashion and freedom of the 60’s with hits from the likes of Petula Clark, Lulu and Dusty Springfield. Using letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements SHOUT! boasts terrific new arrangements of such chart-topping hits as “To Sir With Love,” “Downtown,” “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” “Son of A Preacher Man,” and “Goldfinger.”

With its irresistible blend of hip-swivelling hits, eye-popping fashions and psychedelic dances from the 60’s, this fun-filled musical will make you want to throw your head back and SHOUT!

SHOUT! is presented by Peter Frosdick who most recently produced both A Christmas Carol and Tommy The Rock Opera at Blackpool Opera House.

The UK Tour of The Wedding Singer is Heading to Blackpool in 2017

Step back in time and get ready for the biggest party in town as a sparkling new production of The Wedding Singer is heading to Blackpool’s Winter Gardens for one week only next Spring.

Jon Robyns, Ray Quinn, Cassie Compton, Roxanne Pallett and Ruth Madoc will star in the hilarious musical based on the hit film.

The Wedding Singer will play Blackpool Opera House from Tuesday July 4 to Saturday July 8 2017. Tickets priced from £15 go on sale from 9am Friday July 8 and are available from www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk

It’s 1985. Hair is huge, greed is good and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. When his own fiancée dumps him at the altar a seriously bummed out Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.

Can sweet natured Julia and her best friend Holly lure Robbie out of the dumpster and back into the limelight?  Or is he going to see her head off down the aisle with Wall Street bad boy Glen. Only Grandma Rosie seems to be able to see that Robbie and Julia are the couple that are meant to be.

Today’s announcement is just the second show to be unveiled for Blackpool Opera House in 2017 after it was revealed earlier this year that Wonderland – a musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass – will run at the venue next April.

“The show has a really strong cast with Ruth, Roxanne and Ray all having strong Blackpool links having previously performed here so we look forward to welcoming them back as well as offering a warm welcome to all their fellow cast members.

“We are absolutely packed with hit musical theatre shows at the Winter Gardens during 2016. The Wedding Singer is just the second show to be announced for 2017 with many more exciting announcements to come soon.”

West End and Musical Theatre star Jon Robyns plays Robbie Hart. Most recently he starred in Legally Blonde as Emmett Forrest, other theatre credits include Enjolras in Les Misérables, Spamalot, Memphis and Avenue Q.

He is joined on stage by British singer-songwriter Ray Quinn as Glen who shot to fame as the runner-up in ITV1’s The X Factor in 2006 and as champion of Dancing on Ice in 2009. In 2014 he won Dancing on Ice: Champion of Champions. His theatre credits include Danny Zuko in Grease (West End), Dirty Dancing (West End) and Legally Blonde (UK Tour).

West End leading lady and X Factor finalist Cassie Compton plays Julia; her roles include Sabrina in American Psycho (Almeida, London) and Eponine in Les Misérables. Playing best friend Holly, Roxanne Pallett is perhaps best known for her long-standing role as Jo in ITV’s Emmerdale. She has also appeared in Waterloo Road and Casualty on screen and in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Vagina Monologues and John Godber’s On The Piste on stage.

No stranger to stage and screen, comedy veteran Ruth Madoc joins the company as Grandma Rosie. Ruth became a household name in the Eighties when she played Gladys Pugh in BBC comedy series Hi-De-Hi! More recently we’ve seen her on screen in ITV’s Benidorm, Mount Pleasant (Sky) and Stella (Sky). Samuel Holmes (Mrs Henderson Presents, West End) will play George. Further casting is to be announced.

The Wedding Singer 2017 UK Tour is Directed and Choreographed by Nick Winston. Set and Costumes are by Francis O’Connor. Musical Supervision is by Sarah Travis with Musical Direction and Orchestration by George Dyer. Lighting Design is by Ben Cracknell with Sound Design by Richard Brooker. Video Design is by Jack Henry James and Casting by Jim Arnold. The Wedding Singer is produced by Dan Looney, Paulden Hall Productions, Tom O’Connell and Jason Haigh-Ellery.
